Blues’ Spanish Midfielder Tunes In From Spain For Second Edition Of Live Session, Gives Students An Insight Into His Role In Midfield And Key Aspects Involved…
Bengaluru FC midfielder Dimas Delgado joined over 80 eager students for the second edition of Masterclass, as part of the BFC Soccer Schools On The Web program, on Tuesday. Tuning in from Spain, the 37-year-old ran the children through various key aspects involved in his position, including passing, positioning, and off-the-ball movement.
“It was a great experience for me to speak to these children. I know how hard it must be for them to be sitting at home and not being able to go out and play during the summer. It is great that BFC Soccer Schools has a program like this to allow them to stay active and I was very happy to get involved and help in whatever way I can,” said Dimas, who is also the vice captain of Bengaluru FC.
During the chat, Dimas was asked about the secret to his longevity, with the midfielder having played over two decades of professional football for clubs like FC Barcelona, Numancia and Western Sydney Wanderers, among others. The Spaniard stressed on the need to understand the importance of ‘invisible training’; how every professional footballer needs to take a conscious decision to stay healthy and fit off the pitch.
“We are thankful to Dimas for taking time out and explaining certain aspects of football to these children. They stand to learn a great deal from him, considering his experience and the level that he has played at. The Masterclass is one of the biggest features of our BFC Soccer Schools On The Web program, and we are looking to make it a better experience with every session,” said Bengaluru FC CEO, Mandar Tamhane.
The session ended with the children posing some tough questions the way of Dimas, who was more than happy to answer. The BFC Soccer Schools On The Web Program entered its third month in August, with technical sessions, feedback classes, sport psychology lessons and S&C routines.
The Masterclass, which was earlier held with Australian midfielder Erik Paartalu in the month of July, provides insight into the rigours of professional football and what goes on behind the scenes in a footballer’s life; a feature that 7-year-old Vivaan Sampige’s father believes is important in these times.
“Vivaan definitely looks forward to these On The Web classes. Unlike other online courses, here he actually gets to play. We have set up a speaker for him to listen to instructions clearly. In these times especially, when children can’t go down and play, these On The Web classes give them a basic physical exercise. The Masterclass with BFC players is a big hit with him because he idolizes the BFC players,” says Amruth Sampige.
