BFC U13s Captain Parikram Borah Spoke To Us About His Side’s Efforts Following A Runners-Up Finish At The 2018 International Cup Of Joy

Bengaluru: They returned to a guard of honour from their parents at the Bengaluru Football Stadium and as Parikram Borah added the Runners-Up Trophy from the 2018 International Cup of Joy to the Blues’ trophy cabinet, they were champions in their own right.

“Playing in an U14 tournament with an U13 team is never easy but we believed in the game plan and the coaches gave us the confidence that we could do well. We stuck to the type of football that Rajan (Mani) sir and Govardhan (Gowda) sir wanted us to play and that’s what helped us throughout the tournament,” said Borah.

Having played a part in every game at the tournament, Parikram says that though the aim was to bring home the winner’s trophy, the tournament itself was a learning experience. “We managed to finish the group unbeaten and I thought that our performances were good. The team played like a strong unit and the effort was there for everyone to see. In the end, though we didn’t win, it was a great learning experience,” said Parikram, who was also adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

U13 Head Coach Rajan Mani saw promise in his side and said that work is underway to make his Young Blues’ a stronger unit. “We worked hard for this tournament, but there are certain things that you can only spot and improve on in a competitive setting. We played really well in the group stages and coming back from two goals down to claim that draw against Gokulam showed character. We were unable to carry the intensity forward into the second half in the some of the games, and that is something we will look into. I’m really thankful to the parents who came to support these boys at Coimbatore. The boys have a small break now before work gets underway once again,” said Mani following their return from the tournament.
