Young Blues Claim Point In 2-2 Thriller Against Gokulam Kerala FC In Final Group Game
Bengaluru: Rajan Mani’s BFC U13 Academy side claimed a point in a hard-fought clash against Gokulam Kerala FC in their final group game of the International Cup of Joy, in Coimbatore, on Saturday. The draw sends the Young Blues into the semifinal of the tournament, where they are set to face Reliance Young Champs.
Gokulam Kerala FC began the game on the front foot, controlling play and holding possession for long spells but a stubborn Blues backline held fort until the 27th minute. GKFC striker Rithul Krishna opened the scoring with a low drive past Vedin V. in the BFC goal, before S. Haokip doubled the lead in first-half injury time.
But the Young Blues came out as a more composed unit in the second half, recycling possession well to create chances. In an inspired fightback, Julenjit Singh pulled one back for Mani’s side with a free-kick from distance that evaded bodies in the box to find its way home.
Hridaya Vinay Jain added another in injury time to rescue the Blues a point. After some neat build-up in midfield, Vinith and Roshan combined before the latter dribbled past a host of Gokulam bodies, squaring for Hridaya to tap home.
“The boys showed great mental strength in today’s game and I am very proud of them. All that we had worked on in training was implemented to perfection in the second half and though they went into the dressing room with a deficit, that they came back and claimed the point says a lot,” said Mani following the game.
The BFC U13s take on Reliance Young Champs in the first semifinal at 6.45 am on Sunday, while Chennaiyin FC U14s take on Gokulam Kerala FC U14s in the other last-four clash.
